Lostock Hall men, although mainly ex-Preston drivers, worked the up 'Lakes Express', with either an un-rebuilt ‘Patriot’, or more often a ‘Britannia’, lodging in London and returning, with a parcels train on alternative days and often with a ‘Duchess’. |

According to former fireman John Fletcher, the drivers in the London link were: Les Rampling, Fred Roberts, Albert Goodwin, Len Parkin, Fireman Jack (Digby) Hesketh.
