This section is intended to provide those unfamiliar with Lancashire with a little background about the railways radiating from Lostock Hall and nearby Preston, along with the events which culminated in the building of a locomotive shed on the site and which was eventually to become so familiar to generations of railwaymen and enthusiasts to come.
